Cape Horn Speedway - CANAM

 CANAM Spec Car 

General Information: 

The CANAM class is designed as a “Spec class” for use at Cape Horn Speedway. In addition to the rules below there is a required/recommended parts list attached to this document. Parts listed as “Required” are mandatory with no substitution allowed and parts listed as “Recommended” can be regarded as a guideline and can be replaced with a suitable substitute part by the builder.

Bodies: 

·         Only the bodies detailed in the attached parts list are allowed in this class (Other bodies by other manufactures may be used but must be approved ahead of time by the club officials).

·         Body must be cut along the manufactures cut line.

·         Front wheel arches must be cut out.

·         Bodies must be painted and carry at least three racing numbers, one on each side, and one on the front/hood.

·         Bodies must carry a separate, painted (at least two colors), three-dimensional interior comprising a driver (helmet, shoulders, and arms), a steering wheel, and cockpit representation.

·         No paper interiors. 

Motors:  

  • Only JK “Falcon 7” motor is allowed in this class.
  • Motor may be ground at the rear to provide rear axle clearance.
  • No other modifications are allowed.

Width: 

  • No car may exceed 3.25 inches in width excluding body pins. 

Clearance: 

 

  • The chassis and spur gear must not touch the track nor drag on the track during qualifying runs or any time during the race. Initial clearance must be at least 0.032 inches. 

Wheels and Axles: 

·         Front wheels will be a minimum of 5/8th inch diameter by 0.250” width.

·         1/16th front axles are required.

·         Rear wheels will be a minimum 0.810’ width.

·         3/32nd solid rear axles are required. No hollow axles allowed.

·         All tires must be black in color and made of rubber. 

Guide: 

  • Only one guide flag is allowed. 

Wires: 

  • Builders may use “earring clips” to secure lead wires. 

Gears: 

  • Only 64 pitch gears may be used.
  • An 11 tooth Pinion is required.
  • A 36 tooth spur gear is required. 

Chassis:         

  • Only the Champion Astro XE chassis specified in the attached parts list is allowed in this class.
  • Pin tubes may be added and chassis may be braced.
  • Only bushings allowed - no ball bearings.
  • Pan movement may be increased or restricted.  
  • A 1/16th inch front axle is required and must run through the uprights.
  • No lightweight pans allowed.
  • Lead weight may be added.
  • Vertical Motor Mount may be trimmed and/or removed.
  • No other modifications allowed.
